Pawlet for One Hundred Years by Hiel Hollister

Originally published in 1867 the first half of this book contains material on early settlement and American Revolution (including some military correspondence, accounts of Burgoyne's defeat at Bennington and a list of Revolutionary soldiers who settled in Pawlet.), the War of 1812 (with a list of Pawlet soldiers), an extensive list of men who fought in the Civil War and brief histories of the local militia and Civil War regiments. Chapters are included on local government and politics (including lists of names of officials), emigration customs and observances, names of merchants, physicians and lawyers, census figures, anti-slavery sentiment, railroads, church histories and other subjects, replete with names and dates. The second half consists of family histories presented as an alphabetical series of biographical sketches. These short narratives often note date and place of birth, occupation, spouse, children, military service, age and cause of death. Indexed 298 pages.  (1867) 2004 Sleeper Books.

An Abridged History of Castleton, Vermont by Rev. Joseph Steele.

This is the history of Castleton which was taken from that now very famous Abigail Hemenway’s Gazetteer.  This history was taken from Volume III of Miss Hemenway’s publications and was originally printed in 187k7.  Castleton did not have an extensive history done as so many towns did in the late 1800’s so this small book is a very useful tool in Castleton research.  Reprinted by Sleeper Books 2004. 13 pages plus full name index.

Gravestone Inscriptions in Putney, Vermont by Ken Stevens

Putney, Windham County, Vermont lies on the Connecticut River.  A fort was built there in 1744.  The fort and area were evacuated during the French and Indian War.  By 1776 there were enough settlers to organize a Congregational Church.  The cemetery records include all gravestones found in the town in 1991, the year the records were compiled.  The listings, (including spelling variations and abbreviations) are just as they appear on the stones.  Includes 15 cemeteries, maps, indexed, 115 pages.  (1994 ) Sleeper Books.
